Planning Your Walk for Remembrance and Peace (Sicily)

The Walk for Remembrance and Peace in Sicily is a twenty day, 300 kilometer walk, conducted between July 10th and July 30th 2015. Participants will walk from one town to town leaving at 5:00 AM to avoid the Sicilian sun and will rendezvous at the War Memorial in the next town on the route for an 11:00 AM ceremony. A luggage transportation service is offered and accommodation is available in each town using the small hotels and local Bed and Breakfasts.

A small fee is required to visit and approve all services.

Travel to Sicily

For the trip to Sicily in 2015, contact us to coordinate travel.

There are two major airports in Sicily, for the purpose of our trip,  we recommend the airport at Catania in order to have easy access to the bus to Pachino.

Lodging in Sicily

The Walk for Remembrance and Peace is not a hotel booking website, but can direct you to some available and inexpensive bed & breakfasts and hotels. Participants should not need to spend more than 40€ a day for accommodation. It is highly encouraged that participants book in advance as many of the lodging locations have only a few rooms and will fill up fast. The maps indicate available hotels and B&B’s, however feel free to book other available hotels. ***Keep in mind, not to book to far from the town hall. The organized trip will be starting each day at 5 AM. Click HERE to check out available lodging and recommended hotel booking sites.

Budget

The Walk for Remembrance and Peace follows a path from small town to small town. Food at local restaurants and lodging at B&Bs is expected to be less than 50€ to 60€ per day. Billets are also being solicited and may be available at a reduced rate. Enquire with us for further information.

 Fundraising

The Walk for Remembrance and Peace is organized by a non-profit organization and is set to launch our inaugural walk on July 10th, 2015. Those willing to take part in the organized walk can do so by either paying their way, or fundraising for the cause. For more information about fundraising at your local school or business, email us at info@remembrancewalk.ca, or sign in to receive newsletters and updates.
