The 1st Brigade began the "Battle of Agira". After heavy artillery fire, Nissoria was occupied on the 24th afternoon. Immediately east of the village, however, on the hills on both sides of State Road 121, there is a strong defensive line of the German 104th Regiment and Italian units. Over two days, the Canadian battalions, and armoured units, one after the other, attacked but without success and with many casualties. The difficulty of communications and the lack of synchronization between artillery and infantry made the action of the 1st Brigade fail. Before the arrival of the Canadians, the evacuees from Nissoria witnessed the passage of the Italian and German troops who moved their units westwards. Great was the suffering of the poor people because of the deprivation of the fighting.
